Connect with an API token

1. In TriNet:

   1. TriNet does not issue API credentials from a self-service screen. On the TriNet developer portal (developers.trinet.com), open Dive In › Authentication and fill out the client-credentials request form linked there; an integration specialist contacts you with next steps.
   2. When asking, request read scope only and only the endpoints Safeguard needs (for example the employee list). TriNet limits client credentials by Scope (read and/or write), List All Employees Endpoint Scopes, Endpoints and Company or Companies.
   3. TriNet provisions a client Id and client secret. Exchange them for an access token with a GET to https://api.trinet.com/oauth/accesstoken?grant_type=client_credentials using a Basic Authorization header of base64(clientId:clientSecret).
   4. Paste the returned access_token into API token / Personal access token. Tokens expire after the expires_in seconds in the response (sample shows 3599) and cannot be refreshed with client credentials; a new token must be requested.

   Where to find the other values:

   • Base URL (optional): TriNet's docs use https://api.trinet.com as the API host (for example https://api.trinet.com/v1/company/\{companyId\}/employees).
   • Account / Org / Workspace (optional): Use your TriNet companyId, the value in the API path /v1/company/{companyId}/. The docs do not say where the UI shows it; ask the TriNet integration specialist when credentials are provisioned.

   TriNet issues this credential through its API or its support team, not through its admin screens.

2. On Compliance › Connectors, open TriNet, click Connect, choose API token and fill in:

3. Click Connect with token.
