Retire a project, product or connector

How to archive and restore a project or product, delete one, disconnect a connector and keep its configuration, or remove a connector and its credentials, with what each action keeps and what it cannot undo.

Retire a project, product or connector

Six actions take something out of use. They differ in what they keep, so pick by what you need afterwards.

ActionApplies toWhat happensCan you get it back?
ArchiveProject, productThe item leaves the default lists and totals. Its SBOMs, findings, scans and history are kept.Yes. Restore it.
RestoreArchived project, productThe item returns to the lists and totals with its prior findings. Not applicable
DeleteProjectThe project is deleted together with its SBOMs and findings.No. The delete is permanent.
DeleteProductThe product is deleted. The confirmation says this is permanent and cannot be undone.No. Treat it as permanent.
DisconnectConnectorThe stored credential or authorization is cleared. The connector's configuration stays.Yes. Authorize again or give new credentials.
RemoveConnectorThe connector and its stored credentials are deleted. You can connect the same service again later, but it needs authorizing from scratch.

Archive is the one to reach for when you stop shipping a project or product but may need it for audit. Delete stays permanent and works as before. If you do delete, export what you need first (see Reports).

Archive a project or product

  1. Open the project or product.
  2. Open the actions menu in the header and choose Archive, above Delete.
  3. Confirm. The dialog says the findings stop counting in totals, the history is kept and the item can be restored.

A notice names the item and offers Undo for 10 seconds. The archived item disappears from the default Projects and Products lists, and from dashboards and totals that roll up across projects. Its history stays.

  • Archiving a product archives its projects too. A project you archived on its own before stays archived when you restore the product.
  • Who can do it: whoever may delete a project or product may archive and restore it, and nobody else.
  • Audit: every archive, restore and delete of a project or product is recorded in the audit log with who did it and when.
  • Reason: through MCP you can add a reason, stored on the archived record.
  • Scheduled scans: archiving does not change an existing scan schedule. Pause or remove a schedule before you archive if you do not want it to run.

Restore an archived project or product

  1. On the Projects or Products list, turn on Show archived.
  2. Open the archived item. It shows an Archived label.
  3. Open the actions menu and choose Restore.

The item returns to the default lists and totals with its prior findings and history. Restoring a product restores the projects that were archived with it.

Show archived

The Projects and Products lists have a Show archived toggle. When it is on, the lists show archived items, and a product's expanded project list follows it. The toggle is off each time you open the page; it is not remembered. An archived item opens read-only: rescans, schedules, CI/CD setup, Update, Publish, Share, AI Remediate and DAST suppression rules are hidden. Compare, SBOM and VEX generation, Restore and Delete stay available.

Delete a project

  1. Open the project.
  2. Open the actions menu in the project header and choose Delete.
  3. Read the confirmation and confirm.

The confirmation states that the delete is permanent and cannot be undone. Findings, SBOMs and reports for that project go with it. The Delete entry appears only for people whose role allows deleting projects (see RBAC, teams and organizations).

Delete a product

  1. Open the product.
  2. Open the actions menu in the product header and choose Delete.
  3. Read the confirmation and confirm.

Plan on the delete being permanent: the product confirmation says it cannot be undone. Export any report you need before you confirm. As with projects, the Delete entry appears only for roles that may delete products.

Disconnect a connector

Use Disconnect when you want a connector to stop working but expect to use it again, for example when a credential was rotated or an account changed hands.

  1. Open Connectors and select the connector.
  2. In its detail panel choose Disconnect.

Safeguard clears the stored credential. The connector stays in your list with its configuration, and its tools stop working until you authorize it again or give it new credentials. The owner of a connector can disconnect it, and a tenant admin can disconnect a compliance connector. Not every connector offers the action, and the panel shows it only where it applies.

Remove a connector

Use Remove when the connector should be gone.

  1. Open Connectors and select the connector.
  2. In its detail panel choose Remove and confirm.

Safeguard deletes the connector and its stored credentials. Connecting the same service later is a fresh setup: it needs authorizing from scratch.

From the MCP server and assistants

The same actions are available as tools in Safeguard MCP when your role allows them. Each takes a single id.

ToolArgumentEffect
safeguard_archive_projectproject_id, optional reasonArchives the project and keeps its history.
safeguard_restore_projectproject_id, optional reasonRestores an archived project with its prior findings.
safeguard_archive_productproduct_id, optional reasonArchives the product and its projects.
safeguard_restore_productproduct_id, optional reasonRestores the product and its projects.

safeguard_delete_productproduct_idPermanently deletes the product. Irreversible.
safeguard_disconnect_connectorconnector_idClears the credential and keeps the configuration.

Assistants should confirm with you before calling a delete tool. Prefer archive over delete when you may need the item again.
