Connect with an API token

  1. In Nextcloud:

    1. Sign in to Nextcloud.
    2. Open your personal settings and go to the Security tab.
    3. At the bottom of the list of connected browsers and devices, create a new device-specific password.
    4. Copy the password immediately: you only have access to it when creating it, because Nextcloud does not save the plain password.

Nextcloud shows the secret only once, so copy it before you leave the page.

Nextcloud's public documentation does not cover every step.

Nextcloud's manual describes the device-specific (app) password in prose and does not quote the name field or create button labels, so they are not given. An app password has the same rights as the account it belongs to. Verification removed the administrator requirement and the Username and Base URL field notes, which the fetched page does not cover.

The permissions Safeguard needs. Nextcloud shows the full user list only to administrators, so this credential must belong to one. Safeguard only reads with it.

  2. On Compliance › Connectors, open Nextcloud, click Connect, choose API token and fill in:

    FieldWhat to enter
Base URLRequired. Your own server: an https address reachable from the internet.
    UsernameRequired.
App passwordRequired. Stored encrypted and never shown again.
  3. Click Connect with token.

Frameworks

Safeguard's automated tests read Nextcloud and map to the controls below. When a test passes, the result is evidence toward each control it maps to, in every framework listed. It is evidence toward a control, not proof that the control is met on its own.
