Connect with an API token

  1. In Backblaze:

    1. In the Backblaze web console, go to Application Keys under B2 Cloud Storage.
    2. Click Add a New Application Key and enter a name.
    3. For bucket access choose All (Safeguard lists buckets), and set the type of access to Read Only.
    4. Click Create New Key.
    5. Copy the keyID and the applicationKey: the applicationKey appears only once.

Where to find the other values:

    • Key ID: The keyID shown for the key on the Application Keys page.

Backblaze shows the secret only once, so copy it before you leave the page.

Backblaze's public documentation does not cover every step.

Backblaze's docs list listBuckets, readBucketEncryption and readBucketRetentions as key capabilities, but do not say which capabilities a Read Only key from the web console receives. To set exactly those capabilities, create the key with the Native API b2_create_key operation; the CLI syntax was not sourced.

    Source: backblaze.com, backblaze.com, checked 2026-10-07.

The permissions Safeguard needs: listBuckets, readBucketEncryption, readBucketRetentions.

  2. On Compliance › Connectors, open Backblaze, click Connect, choose API token and fill in:

    FieldWhat to enter
    Key IDRequired.
Application keyRequired. Stored encrypted and never shown again.
  3. Click Connect with token.

Frameworks

Safeguard's automated tests read Backblaze and map to the controls below. When a test passes, the result is evidence toward each control it maps to, in every framework listed. It is evidence toward a control, not proof that the control is met on its own.
