Connect with an API token
-
In Vtiger:
- Sign in to Vtiger CRM as the user whose Access Key the integration will use.
- Go to Settings › My Preferences.
- Copy the Access Key shown there. Vtiger generates it automatically when the user is created; there is no separate create step.
Where to find the other values:
- Instance URL: The address of your Vtiger CRM (the CRM_URL you sign in at). Vtiger's REST API is served under it at https://CRM_URL/restapi/v1/vtiger/default.
- Username: The CRM username of the same user whose Access Key you copied; Vtiger's REST API authenticates with HTTP Basic using the CRM Username and Access Key.
The Access Key is a per-user token tied to that user's permissions, so it carries the user's role; Vtiger has no read-only scope for it. The Access Key stays visible in My Preferences (not shown once). The sources do not describe how to regenerate it. The help articles give the path as Settings > My Preferences; the VTAP and developer docs say only 'My Preferences in the CRM Web UI'. The full REST API Manual (help.vtiger.com/article/147111249) loads client-side and was not read. Verification 2026-10-07: removed the claim that the user must be an administrator, which no source states.
Source: help.vtiger.com, help.vtiger.com, vtap.vtiger.com, community.vtiger.com, checked 2026-10-07.
The permissions Safeguard needs. Vtiger shows the full user list only to administrators, so this credential must belong to one. Safeguard only reads with it.

On Compliance › Connectors, open Vtiger, click Connect, choose API token and fill in:

Click Connect with token.
Frameworks
Safeguard's automated tests read Vtiger and map to the controls below. When a test passes, the result is evidence toward each control it maps to, in every framework listed. It is evidence toward a control, not proof that the control is met on its own.
| Framework | Evidence | Controls | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|
| SOC2 | Automated tests | CC6.2, CC6.3 | 3 |
| ISO/IEC 27001 | Automated tests | A.5.16, A.5.18, A.6.5, A.8.2 | 3 |
| HIPAA Security Rule | Automated tests | 164.308(a)(3), 164.308(a)(4) | 3 |
| PCI DSS | Automated tests | 7.2.2, 7.2.4, 8.2.5 | 3 |
| NIST CSF 2.0 | Automated tests | PR.AA-01, PR.AA-05 | 3 |
These tests are switched on per workspace by the Safeguard team.
